Joy Schendledecker is running for Mayor of the City of Santa Cruz. Joy lives in Santa Cruz, working as a mom, artist, and community organizer. Joy is a member of the Working Families Party and Democratic Socialists of America, and serves on the organizing committees of Sanitation for the People and Santa Cruz Cares, helping to fundraise, coordinate volunteers and resource distribution, and advocate to reduce the harms of inequality and neglect on some of the city’s most marginalized residents. Caring for these and other communities for over 20 years has taught Joy not only the depth of unmet needs in Santa Cruz, but also the remarkable energy, creativity, strength, and generosity of its residents. Witnessing the needs and capacities of this singular city at such a critical moment convinced Joy to run for mayor.
